The Earth Moved

Minutes after I posted that last, my chair started vibrating. My computer bobbled up and down. The foo dogs on either side of my monitor crept toward the edge. My younger son said that the basement railing was shaking.

I thought, perhaps, that a big pile of snow had crashed off a neighbor's roof and caused something to crack in our townhouse wall. It was scary.

Then I got in the car to drive my older son to Hebrew school, put on the radio, and they were reporting on the earthquake that had just hit Northern Virginia. (ETA: 4.5 on the Richter Scale.)

How do people in Southern California live with this ALL THE TIME?
