Greetings from Kitty Hawk

We saw almost no sun on Tuesday, but that didn't stop us from having a great day at the beach. In the morning after breakfast we went out to swim, but though the water wasn't particularly colder than the day before, the waves were quite rough, so except for Adam we mostly waded instead of swimming. Then we came inside to change and went to Nags Head Woods, an ecological preserve protected by the Nature Conservancy with lots of marshes and wetlands back among the trees, where we saw herons, frogs, turtles, birds, insects, and a poisonous cottonmouth snake. After lunch we drove across from our hotel to see the Wright Brothers Memorial, which was hosting a kite festival and was surrounded by Canada geese.

It started to drizzle as we were leaving the memorial, so we went to get Rita's ices again and stopped at a very rainy Buccaneer's Walk, which has a bunch of stores we like including the Peanut Shop and several antique and jewelry shops. We also visited Try My Nuts, so we have lots and lots of nuts. had to leave around dinnertime, though not before we watched an episode of Animal Planet's insane Turtleman show involving a date to retrieve snappers and a raccoon with babies. After she departed, the rest of us ate veggie lasagna and went for a walk on the beach, where the water was as warm as the air after the storms had moved through and there were lots of happy sandpipers eating what was left.
