It was a hard thing to undo this knot
By Gerard Manley Hopkins
It was a hard thing to undo this knot.
The rainbow shines, but only in the thought
Of him that looks. Yet not in that alone,
For who makes rainbows by invention?
And many standing round a waterfall
See one bow each, yet not the same to all,
But each a hand's breadth further than the next.
The sun on falling waters writes the text
Which yet is in the eye or in the thought.
It was a hard thing to undo this knot.

For the first time in several days, we actually got some rain -- not for long, but big heavy drops that made noise when they hit the deck and sounded a lot like the leaves that were also raining down. We still have lots of color in the back yard and lots of little birdies looking for gifts at the bird feeder, meaning that we have troubled cats.
I have little but work and chores to report from my day, though I got to watch the DS9 episode with all the Les Mis references to review, which is for the win. ENDA passed the Senate, the National Zoo tiger cubs passed their swimming test, and Elementary was awesome (Mycroft!). Some pics from the orchard near Sugarloaf Mountain last weekend:
