Poem for Saturday, Riverbend Park, Phage

Today
By Billy Collins

If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze

that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house

and unlatch the door to the canary's cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,

a day when the cool brick paths
and the garden bursting with peonies

seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking

a hammer to the glass paperweight
on the living room end table,

releasing the inhabitants
from their snow-covered cottage

so they could walk out,
holding hands and squinting

into this larger dome of blue and white,
well, today is just that kind of day.

I have had a very lovely but very busy week, and there have been lots of gorgeous flowers to see, but between the plans and the pollen and the stress over what's been going on in Baltimore, I am very tired! My Friday was relatively typical: I posted a review of Voyager's "Phage", picked up Daniel from College Park so he could drive us home, had dinner with my parents, argued politics on Facebook.

Our evening TV was supposed to involve catching up on Elementary which we missed watching the crack that is Dig, but Verizon doesn't have it On Demand yet, boo! So we only caught up on Orphan Black, which is better than almost everything else anyway, even though I'm not warming to the sudden influx of testosterone. Here are some photos of Virginia bluebells from a couple of weekends ago:
