Poem for Friday and Replaying the Revolution

The Life So Short...
By Eamon Grennan

and larks rising out of dead grass
and lambs antiphonal between rocky outcrops
and the discreet one-note charm
of the willow warbler wishing itself
into invisibility between sally trees
      where desperate with its own
single-mind intent the yellow-eyed
red-tail kite (still an edgy fledgling)
prepares to put into lethal play
its own unforgiving art by twitching
one nervous feather after another
in the precious seconds before lift-off

It was drizzly again all day Thursday, which was fine because I mostly had chores to do. I made the mistake of going to both the post office and a Hallmark store a couple of days before Mother's Day, so the lines were longer than necessary and people were cranky trying to get their stuff done, but otherwise it was pretty quiet and since we had to stop at the food store, we went to Cabin John Park to take a walk (we mostly saw caterpillars, but near home there was a bunny and a lot of excitable robins).

Thursday night remains my favorite on TV, even better now that Orphan Black has replaced Elementary -- I'm enjoying this season more than last, I never really cared about Castor and I've loved the stories both past and present about the Leda women. Plus The 100 still has the most kick-ass women on television, though occasionally I wish it had a few moments of levity. Paul's father will be home today, which is great news though he still needs a lot of physical therapy! Mount Vernon reenacting:
