Poem for Thursday and Cabin John Walk

Quail's Nest
By John Clare

I wandered out one rainy day
And heard a bird with merry joys
Cry 'wet my foot' for half the way;
I stood and wondered at the noise,

When from my foot a bird did flee--
The rain flew bouncing from her breast
I wondered what the bird could be,
And almost trampled on her nest.

The nest was full of eggs and round--
I met a shepherd in the vales,
And stood to tell him what I found.
He knew and said it was a quail's,

For he himself the nest had found,
Among the wheat and on the green,
When going on his daily round,
With eggs as many as fifteen.

Among the stranger birds they feed,
Their summer flight is short and low;
There's very few know where they breed,
And scarcely any where they go.

 I had a fun morning Wednesday -- I had volunteered for a study by a RIT student about advertising in Pokemon Go, for which I was "paid" in game items, but it was interesting enough that I would have done it anyway. Then I chatted with my high school friends around lunch, did a bunch of chores, and in the late afternoon we went out to the post office, stopped in the mall -- I insisted on stopping in the LEGO Store again, though I was good and did not buy the Asgardian flying boat kit. On the way home we stopped at Locust Grove to walk and saw a frog with tadpoles, plus a ranger had the restoration project quail out:

We watched The Flash, in which Barry's mansplaining to Caitlin ruined my ability to mourn for the one character besides Caitlin for whom I feel any real affection -- couldn't he have talked about his own experiences mourning his parents instead of all that condescension, they've been friends for years -- and Kung Fu, which has so many characters I like but the standard CW problem of Someone Not Telling Someone Something For Their Own Good That Leads To Bad Things Happening. Then I did a Tapu Fini raid with younger son's girlfriend and her father, and chatted with them about possible vacation stuff.
