Poem for Monday and USBG Season's Greenings

Kidnap Poem
By Nikki Giovanni

ever been kidnapped
by a poet
if i were a poet
i'd kidnap you
put you in my phrases and meter
you to jones beach
or maybe coney island
or maybe just to my house
lyric you in lilacs
dash you in the rain
blend into the beach
to complement my see
play the lyre for you
ode you with my love song
anything to win you
wrap you in the red Black green
show you off to mama
yeah if i were a poet i'd kid
nap you

--------

My Monday was a Monday -- computer work, laundry, cats climbing over us to sleep in front of the heat vents. After rain all weekend, it was a gorgeous day, sunny and chilly; we walked to the park in the afternoon, though both the beach there and the dock behind our apartment are still closed for the post-bomb cyclone cleanup.

We watched some of Monday Night Football, though the most fun part of it was the Simpsons live crossover broadcast on Disney which animated the game. Then we watched The Real Full Monty, which I'd intended just to put on for the opening, but I wanted to hear James Van Der Beek talk about his diagnosis and the guys were fun.

Now it's WWDITS time. Here are some photos of this year's Season's Greenings display at the US Botanic Garden, whose outdoor component has a multi-level model train setup with oversized pollinators made from plant parts like the mini-monuments inside, so there are big bats and bees pollinating a variety of native American flowers.
