Quickie, I won passes to see Don't Worry Darling at the AMC in Tysons Corner...in the Dolby Cinema theater, it turned out, with the recliners and the huge screen. And instead of making us line up and wait for an hour and a half to get good seats, they let us pick seats and print tickets, so then we could walk across the top floor to the food court and get samosas (me) and butter chicken (him) from Taste of India for dinner. We got to see the Tysons train driving kids around and I ran into a Pokemon friend working at the press screening for Bros, which was also in the AMC.
As for Don't Worry Darling itself, the first hour and a half were better than I expected given all the noise around the movie; it was stylish, sexy, by turns witty and tense, and the main actors (Pugh and Styles, Pine who's a better creep than hero, Wilde herself) give intense performances and have great chemistry. But the last half hour tries to go full twisty thriller and ironically that costs it all its momentum, as both the narrative logic and the character behavior stop making sense. It does have the moral that women don't like being kept barefoot and pregnant no matter how good men are at oral sex.
