Poem for Wednesday and Green Lake

brief lesson on marriage
By G.C. Waldrep

I asked my wife
to check the hive,
to see
if the hive
were burning.
(I had
no wife, no hive.)
Yes, she said,
rising up
from where she’d
been
embroidering
a new wind. Then
— Yes,
she said again,
only this time
a bit more softly.

It's a week for big news! On Wednesday morning, Daniel and Cahaya announced their engagement, which we've known about since they got back from Canada a week ago but they wanted to keep quiet until they'd informed various relatives and friends privately. Daniel's now-fiancee is lovely, smart, and fun to be around, and she makes him very happy, so we're very excited and delighted for them!

Otherwise it was a calm day, gorgeous weather, chatted with all my high school friend regulars though in some cases consecutively, walked to the beach after chores which included hanging pictures in the guest room now that we have a sleep sofa. We just finished watching Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, my least favorite of the franchise. Green Lake last weekend, including the engaged couple:
