If it's January, it must be...over 60 degrees. Yeah.

Given the weather, even though it meant missing the Humanitarian Bowl (!) which I half-suspect my husband was making up, we went to Great Falls, the Maryland side this time.


Where there were turkey vultures and low-level whirlpools


...and the ruins of the house at Lock 18 on the canal


...and shells that shouldn't be in the Potomac River, invaders from Asia


...and ongoing evidence that Isabel was here


...and the river, which never looks the same twice


...and the Virginia side of the national park


...and the sky.
