Poem for Tuesday, Huntley Meadows, Lost Empires

This Marriage (Ode 2667)
By Jalaluddin Rumi
Translated by Kabir Helminski

May these vows and this marriage be blessed.
May it be sweet milk,
this marriage, like wine and halvah.
May this marriage offer fruit and shade
like the date palm.
May this marriage be full of laughter,
our every day a day in paradise.
May this marriage be a sign of compassion,
a seal of happiness here and hereafter.
May this marriage have a fair face and a good name,
an omen as welcome
as the moon in a clear blue sky.
I am out of words to describe
how spirit mingles in this marriage.

I got to see Dementordelta on Monday! She was on her way home from a convention in New Jersey and I told her that she should stop and have lunch with me en route to Virginia. So we went to IHOP (where I rarely have pancakes -- I had hash browns and eggs benedict without the bacon), then we came back to my house and watched the last several episodes of Lost Empires, in which Colin Firth is adorably young and morose and John Castle is wickedly conniving and cranky (and Downton Abbey's Jim Carter is even grumpier).

We picked up Adam and his girlfriend from school between lunch and miniseries, and after Maddy and Delta went home, the rest of us had veggie burgers for dinner. Then we caught up on last night's Once Upon a Time (werewolves are always welcome on my fantasy shows) and the new Smash (in which Karen's inability to sing "Hava Nagila" made us all laugh, though we think Julia needs Eileen to throw a martini in her face).
