Greetings from the Seattle Aquarium

We had plans on Sunday to go to the zoo, but we looked at the map of smoke moving in from the east and decided an indoor activity probably made more sense. So we went to the Seattle Aquarium, which we haven't visited in nearly seven years, and had a lovely afternoon visiting everyone from an octopus and a cuttlefish to sea otters and fur seals. While we were there and at Pike Place Market afterward, the air quality deteriorated further -- I hate to complain when my relatives in L.A. are dealing with both a tropical storm and an unexpected earthquake, but it is now in the unhealthy range and smells like thousands of grills left on too long. We stopped at Safeway on the way home, then barricaded ourselves inside with the air filters on.

We saw most of the Nats-Phillies game, then ate dinner and watched two movies: The Portable Door, which is a pretty enjoyable comedy-fantasy about two young people working for a mysterious magical organization, with some silly aspects but nice practical effects and Sam Neill, and then, since we were already in a Sam Neill mood and Amazon recommended it, The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box, which isn't as fun or charming but it does have Michael Sheen in delightful period costumes. Here are some aquarium photos plus a couple outdoors so you can see how the air quality declined over the afternoon:
