Poem for Saturday and Longwood Fountains

The Fountain
By James Russell Lowell

Into the sunshine,
Full of the light,
Leaping and flashing
From morn till night!

Into the moonlight,
Whiter than snow,
Waving so flower-like
When the winds blow!

Into the starlight,
Rushing in spray,
Happy at midnight,
Happy by day!

Ever in motion,
Blithesome and cheery.
Still climbing heavenward,
Never aweary

Glad of all weathers,
Still seeming best,
Upward or downward,
Motion thy rest;—

Full of a nature
Nothing can tame,
Changed every moment,
Ever the same;—

Ceaseless aspiring,
Ceaseless content,
Darkness or sunshine
Thy element;—

Glorious fountain!
Let my heart be
Fresh, changeful, constant,
Upward, like thee!

My Friday started inauspiciously with a minor annoying household crisis, but ended up being all right, since the weather was gorgeous and I went for a walk in the park after morning busy work. Daniel sent me this Batman awesomeness. I also talked to an old friend and to my niece Noelle on the phone, and it was nice to catch up.

After dinner we watched the season premiere of Agents of SHIELD, which I enjoyed -- lots of pop culture references and very little character soap opera, and I like the more sci-fi direction -- then caught up on The Gifted, which was a bit too soapy but well acted. Here are Longwood Gardens' summer fountains by day and night:
