Greetings from Chartres

Extreme quickie, have been too tired to post two nights in a row, spent a glorious day yesterday at the castles in Angers and Chinon (Eleanor of Aquitaine! Joan of Arc!) before spending an equally lovely evening at the home of my college roommate Helene and her family, with whom we went to the 10 p.m. light show at the Chateau de Blois. This morning we toured the chateau inside -- next to Versailles it's the best-restored royal residence we have visited, with spectacular ceilings, walls, and furnishings -- then drove to Chartres where the labyrinth is only open on Friday afternoons so I got to walk it before taking the crypt tour, having dinner at the same restaurant where we ate with our kids three years ago, and seeing the free light show on the cathedral and in several places around the old town. Pics when I can see straight!
