Poem for Wednesday and Mukilteo Lighthouse

The Lighthouse Keeper
By Helen Emma Maring

In the lonely twilight hour,
Looking forth from his old tower,
When the sunset glow has faded in the west,
Then he sees the distant things
Steeped in purple of the kings,
While the breezes come to chill at night's behest.
Then the color from the air
Sinks to—God but knows just where,
And the interval of deepened twilight grows;
But the gleaming streaks of light
From his tower of the night
Send their word to every ship that comes or goes.

Is anyone getting tired yet of hearing me talk about what gorgeous weather we're having? (I've been told it will not be like this in the winter.) This morning I set up the hummingbird feeders, and while we didn't see any hummingbirds today, the red-winged blackbirds and grosbeaks are enjoying sitting on the new metal hook. Also, the cats are enjoying glaring at the birds. Only one of my high school friends was around to chat today but it's always lovely to see her.

I watched the first half of Spider-Man: Homecoming with Kristen in the afternoon before walking to the beach, which had lots of visitors in this gorgeous weather -- swimmers and geese both. Now we're watching the fourth episode of Three Pines, which is very good, after the first episode this season of Crime Scene Kitchen, still fun. Here are some photos from inside and outside the lighthouse in Mukilteo on the site where George Vancouver first came ashore:
