Greetings from the Shire

Quick post after all day in Connecticut mostly at the Renfaire's Shirefolk Day with Kristen and Laurie plus the latter's husband and son -- there was food, jousting, royalty, smoking ice cream, lots of Hobbits, one of the Nazgul, and lots of fun. Afterward we went back to Laurie and Hal's house for pizza and pie. Now we're watching Dark Matter after a scare in which we thought one of the cats ate part of a chocolate chip cookie, but it looks like she just broke it into pieces and didn't eat much chocolate. More pics when I sort them!

Greetings from Washington Park Arboretum

Quick post after Thursday night chat while watching Stuart Fails To Save the Universe -- an episode that's particularly a propos tonight because I was just talking about when I worked at AnotherUniverse and the guys could argue for an hour about whether Captain Cold could beat Mr. Freeze.

Earlier while looking down the basement for a box with cards, I found the black and white original copies of our Star Trek Tarot deck, which I had really wanted to scan but thought were lost forever, so I wound up making it a scanning afternoon with that and all the summer mail and stuff.

I talked to my parents, took a walk, we ordered vegan Chinese for dinner and watched "Once La'an a Time" -- this week's over the top but fun Strange New Worlds -- before chat, during which we had the Red Sox win on in the background. Late summer-early fall at Washington Park Arboretum:

Greetings from Home

Whole day of unpacking, laundry, getting the key back from the cat-sitter, and other post-trip chores after jet-lag oversleeping and convincing the cats we did not abandon them, of which only treats seem to convince them.

We managed a quick walk before dinner, then my DS9 group watched "The Way of the Warrior" -- the double-episode season four premiere with Worf and many Klingons (these days I can laugh about the Kira-Dax holodeck storyline but I hated it originally).

We caught up on last Friday's excellent Dark Matter and now we're watching last Thursday's Strange New Worlds -- I like the Kirk family history but Pike kind of feels like a guest star on his own show. Pics from yesterday in Washington:

Greetings from the Red Sox

My Tuesday morning was a bunch of chores I didn't do over the holiday weekend, followed by fresh bagels for lunch that Paul picked up, then some computer stuff before I talked to Chris for an hour and then Paul and I went for a walk (only four bunnies today but the frog was back).

For Star Trek's 60th anniversary, my DS9 group watched "The Adversary" (the excellent end of the third season) which had the added benefit of making me miss most of the horrible Red Sox game. Carol told me to watch Younger, which is actually pretty fun. Adley Rutschman on the Red Sox for Kate:

Greetings from Spencer

Quick post because after an early lunch and late-morning appointment for the new covid and flu shots, we went to the Spencer Fair for most of the day! We met cows and alpacas and saw chicks hatching, we watched a magic show, we ate healthy things like a fried snickers bar, fried mozzarella sticks, and ice cream, we saw bees making honey in a craft barn with pottery and crocheted clothing.

We went to a two-hour concert by a local yacht rock group, Below Deck, at which I knew every word of every song (there was some Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston as well as "The Pina Colada Song" and "All Night Long"). We got home, had chicken soup for dinner, and watched the Red Sox beat the Orioles before the Silo season finale, and now we're watching this week's Dark Matter.

Greetings from the Boston Raiders

My Wednesday was all the chores I neglected for the past several days around Zoom chats -- my high school friends after laundry and lunch, then Cel and Laurie later in the afternoon when we watched the first half of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. My cats were very vocal after being left at home for several days with no one to supervise, so they were probably overfed.

We saw some of the Red Sox and Orioles' bad days, then took a walk and ate leftover Indian food. Afterward we watched The Mandalorian and Grogu with Cheryl long-distance. Here are some more photos from Heated Rivalry night at Fenway Park -- custom drinks, friendship bracelets, Rachel Reid greeting fans inside and out, decorations, t-shirts -- thousands of happy fans!

Greetings from the Cottage er Fenway

Quick post after extra-innings Red Sox victory over the Mariners at Fenway Park's Heated Rivalry night, which included game jerseys, exclusive drink cups currently selling for five times what we paid for them on eBay, author Rachel Reid throwing out the first pitch, and lots of awesome photo opportunities, plus all the usual joys of a Red Sox game (the Monster, enthusiastic fans even when losing, "Sweet Caroline" etc.).

Before the game we went into Boston, rode the Swan Boats in Boston Public Garden, walked a bit past Boston Common, had a picnic on a bench in the park, then walked up Commonwealth Avenue to see the permanent statues and the temporary Great Elephant Migration display before we walked to Fenway Park and waited in line for over an hour with many delightful Heated Rivalry fans dressed for the occasion exchanging bracelets and cookies!

Greetings from Connecticut

Another quick post after a day at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire with Cheryl and Kristen, who met us there late morning. We wandered through the market, heard some music, saw some jousting, ate lunch, watched an insane performance of Rats: The Musical, and came home in the late afternoon because Cheryl wasn't feeling great. We showed her the first two episodes of Lanterns because she hadn't seen them, and had soup and cheese for dinner, then we watched this week's epic disaster Silo and the return of the excellent Dark Matter. More tomorrow.
