We had a lovely social Sunday, though we started by sending Adam and Haley off to visit her grandmother in Richmond, then to their home in Ohio. We headed downtown (as did Daniel and Cahaya, though separately) and met Cheryl and Tree at Union Station, from which we walked to the National Gallery of Art to see the excellent Paris 1874: The Impressionist Moment, including Monet's Impression, Sunrise, for which the movement is named but which had been missing for several years after being stolen. We ate lunch in the museum's cafeteria.
Then we walked to the US Botanic Garden, which had its annual display of miniature monuments made from plants amidst poinsettias and model trains in the outdoor garden. We also visited the cacti and rainforest. From there we visited the Folger Shakespeare Library, which we hadn't seen since it reopened and put all its First Folios on display, though the highlight for me was the other first edition exhibit including Joyce's Ulysses and Tolkien's hand-corrected publisher's proofs. We came back to Maryland to have Grand Fusion with Linda and Ira at my parents'.
