An Early Autumn Morning
By Ted Kooser
Hundreds of swallows, and each of two minds,
one settling lightly and easily onto the power line,
the other one hungry and flying away. All day
they’ll be at this, half of them filling the sky,
darting for insects, low over the pasture grass,
the other half an endless row of clothespins
tilted the same direction, into the wind,
all just alike, and each a stranger to the next.

We had rain early Wednesday and it was damp and overcast all day. My morning was uneventful, then I chatted at lunchtime with my three good friends from high school while eating an eggwich, with assistance from my cats. In the late afternoon, we took a walk in the gorgeous not-too-warm weather and watched leaves fall. Then we had pasta for National Pasta Day and watched The Masked Singer, which for once cut the right person, and later we watched LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales, which is pretty goofy overall but has some hilarious moments mocking Luke being emo, Kyle being emo, and Vader being a good daddy! Plus Leia briefly kicks butt!
I don't have anything profound to say about the season finale of What If...? except that I'm glad it turned out to be a series instead of a set of one-offs (honestly, you'd think critics had never heard of Star Trek: The Next Generation or any other show with both standalone and arc episodes). I love Peggy and Natasha in every universe, T'Challa's last MCU appearance is to try to save the multiverse, I don't mind Party Thor being an idiot, I'm not sorry about the missing Gamora episode because we get that next season (and we get a next season)! And we just watched the Dodgers beat the Cardinals! From MoPop's Disney costume exhibit:
Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Returns suits
Cinderella's ball gown worn by Lily James
Sacha Baron Cohen's Time costume from Alice: Through the Looking Glass and Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow costume from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Two of Emma Watson's Belle's Beauty and the Beast dresses
At left, Meryl Streep's Into the Woods costume; at right, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy's Hocus Pocus costumes
Angelina Jolie's Maleficent gown and horns
And this is not the best angle to see either, but I wanted a single photo with both Geoffrey Rush's Barbossa costume from POTC (second from left) and Colin Firth's William Weatherall Wilkins costume from Mary Poppins Returns (back row, to the left of the Enchanted costumes)
