Another lovely day starting with breakfast at the hotel as the rain from the tropical storm ended, then we drove into Salem to the Salem Witch Museum, which has a (somewhat dated) animatronic reenactment of the events leading up to the trials and the aftermath, then the House of the Seven Gables, which I had only seem previously from the outside and which I didn't realize had been largely reconstructed and modified a century ago to impress Hawthorne fans!
From there, we walked to Ye Olde Pepper Companie for chocolates and the Mercy Tavern for lunch, then to the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, which has a small beach, a flock of Canada geese, and the tall ship Friendship of Salem (now downrigged for the winter). After we walked back to the car, we went back to the hotel to hang out for a while before walking to the nearby TGI Friday for a dinner consisting of mostly appetizers and drinks, then back to the hotel for more cannoli.
