Despite having woken up to nightmare headlines from Israel that made me nauseous all day, we spent a gorgeous, surprisingly warm October Saturday mostly in Kitsap County, starting at the farmer's market in Port Orchard and a walk on the dock where Lady Washington was about to set sail -- we could hear the sea lions at the naval base barking from across the water. We ate lunch, catching up on the Terps' loss to Ohio State after a very solid first half and the Orioles' defeat by the Rangers, in the park by the ferries; then we stopped in the antique mall before driving to Bainbridge Island to see Pia the Peacekeeper, the Thomas Dambo troll.
From Sakai Park, we headed back over the water through Suquamish lands to Poulsbo, the Scandinavian-themed town on Liberty Bay. We visited the maritime museum, the Sea Discovery Center with its touch tanks and aquariums, a few shops (though the line for Sluys Bakery was crazy long), and the marina harbor. On the way home, we stopped in Gig Harbor because the sky had been so clear all day that we anticipated a fabulous view of the mountain, and we were not disappointed. When we got home we caught up on the season finale of The Wheel of Time (Moiraine's dragons > Daenerys's dragons) and the end of the new season of Lupin.
